Starting Over in Digits: Removing Transactions, Connections, and Company Data

Sometimes you need a clean reset—maybe the wrong bank was connected, personal accounts were included, or you started setup with the wrong info.

This article explains what you can and can’t delete in Digits, plus the cleanest ways to start fresh without creating more cleanup later.

Business Vs. Personal Accounts

Using One Account for Both Business and Personal

If personal and business transactions are mixed together, it usually means too many accounts were shared during the bank connection.

Before you delete anything, do this in order:

1) Confirm what was shared

Some banks let you access multiple accounts (personal + business) under one login. If you shared them all, Digits will import them all.

⚠️ If you only delete transactions, they’ll likely come back.

2) Update what’s shared at the bank

Some banks require you to change which accounts are shared on the bank’s website before reconnecting.

3) Then clean up in Digits

Once sharing is corrected, you can:

  • Remove the connection to delete imported transactions

  • Reconnect only the correct accounts

  • Or create a new company for a totally clean slate

📌 Tip: Starting over works best after you’ve corrected account sharing. Otherwise, the same personal accounts may keep syncing back in.

What to do with personal transactions in a Mixed Account

Starting Over

Option 1: Remove a Connection (and all its transactions)

Best if you connected the wrong bank/card or imported the wrong accounts.

Steps:

  1. Go to Connections

  2. Select the account

  3. Choose Delete / Remove Connection

  4. Confirm

⚠️ This removes all transactions from that connection and affects balances, reports, and reconciliations.

📌 If you only want to stop future imports, use Pause instead.

Option 2: Create a New Company

Best if setup is brand new and you want a totally clean restart.

This is a good fit if:

  • The wrong bank or QuickBooks account was connected

  • Personal and business transactions are mixed

  • You want to restart from scratch early on
