Documents Overview

Documents centralize statements, receipts, and contracts—upload or auto-fetch, convert PDFs to CSV, and stay in sync with Reconciliations.

How to Access Documents in Digits

  1. Click Documents in the left menu.

  2. From here, you can:

    • Click Upload Document (top right) to add files.

    • Use Search, Filters, Sort, and switch List/Grid views (icons in the top right).

How Documents Get into Digits

Manual uploads

  • Upload PDFs, images, and other document types—ideal for receipts, vendor contracts, or treasury reports.

Ledger attachments

  • Any file attached to a transaction (e.g., a receipt or invoice) is automatically added to Documents.

Email

  • You can email documents directly to the correct Digits business/client using that instance’s unique Digits email address. This is great for forwarding receipts, bills, or statements without logging in.

  • Digits will automatically recognize supported documents and link them to the appropriate transaction or route them to the appropriate workflow when possible.

See: Sending Documents to Digits by Email

Auto-fetch via Plaid (U.S. banks/cards)

  • When you connect an account through Plaid, Digits automatically pulls official bank statements into Documents—no uploads needed.

  • Currently supported include (not exhaustive): Wells Fargo, Bank of America, U.S. Bank, Citibank Online, Navy Federal Credit Union, Regions Bank, Fifth Third Bank, Huntington Bank, Truist, Acorns, Mercury, Meow, Slash, Chariot, Parker, Klutch, Spruce, Double Finance, Mass Finance Inc., GuideStone Financial Resources, Dappr, Crew Finance, Percapita Group, Cogent Bank (Personal & Business), Atlas, Safra National Bank, American Bank (TX), and CCBank (Business & Personal).

Automatic sync between Reconciliations and Documents

  • Any statement uploaded in Reconciliations is also added to Documents.

  • Any statement added in Documents is automatically matched to a reconciliation when possible.

Downloading a PDF as CSV

  1. Open Documents.

  2. Click the menu next to a document (or open the document detail page).

  3. If supported, click Download CSV to export.

Note: Only certain PDFs (like compatible bank statements) can be converted. Unsupported or very large/long files may not show the option.

Viewing Linked Transactions

When you click on a document, a file info panel appears on the right side. If linked to a transaction(s), you’ll see a Linked Transactions section showing:

  • Transaction date

  • Transaction amount

Clicking the transaction takes you directly to its details page in the Ledger.

Frequently Asked Questions

chevron-rightHow long does it take to convert a PDF to CSV?hashtag

It depends on size and complexity. Short statements (1–2 pages) usually convert in ~60 seconds; longer or more complex PDFs can take up to 10 minutes.

chevron-rightWill Digits automatically attach receipts to the right transaction?hashtag

Yes—you can upload, drag & drop, or email receipts, and Digits will automatically attach them to the right transaction when it can (based on details like vendor, date, and amount).

If Digits can’t confidently match a receipt, it will still store it in Documents so you can attach it manually later..

chevron-rightAre there limits on PDF conversion?hashtag

Yes. PDFs over ~15 pages may not convert successfully (fix coming soon). Large files (~7MB+) or highly formatted statements may time out or return incomplete results.

chevron-rightCan I upload documents that aren’t tied to transactions?hashtag

Yes. Upload contracts, treasury reports, receipts, and more directly into Documents.

chevron-rightCan I delete or replace a document?hashtag

Yes. Use the Trash icon in the file info panel.

  • If you delete a document from the Documents tab, it will also be removed from any linked transactions.

    • Unlink it (keep it in the Documents tab), or

    • Delete it entirely
