The Documents tab acts as a centralized hub for all your important files—like bank statements, receipts, contracts, and more. Whether they're auto-fetched or user-uploaded, everything you attach stays securely in one place.
How to Access Documents in Digits
1. Click Documents in the left menu.
From here, you can:
Click Upload Document (top right) to add new files manually.
Filter, search, sort, or switch between list and grid views using the icons in the top right of the Documents tab.
How Documents Get into Digits
Manual Uploads
You can upload PDFs, images, and other document types manually—ideal for receipts, vendor contracts, or treasury reports.
Ledger Attachments
Any document attached to a transaction—like a receipt or invoice—will also appear in the Documents tab.
Auto-Fetch via Plaid
When you connect a U.S.-based bank or credit card account through Plaid, Digits automatically pulls official bank statements into the Documents tab—no uploads needed.
Currently supported banks include:
Wells Fargo, Bank of America, U.S. Bank, Citibank Online, Navy Federal Credit Union, Regions Bank, Fifth Third Bank, Huntington Bank, Truist, Acorns, Mercury, Meow, Slash, Chariot, Parker, Klutch, Spruce, Double Finance, Mass Finance Inc., GuideStone Financial Resources, Dappr, Crew Finance, Percapita Group, Cogent Bank (Personal & Business), Atlas, Safra National Bank, American Bank (TX), and CCBank (Business & Personal).
Downloading a PDF as CSV
Digits can convert certain PDF documents—like bank statements—into a downloadable CSV file.
How to do it:
Open the Documents tab.
Click on the menu next to the document (or click into the document details page).
If supported, you’ll see a Download CSV option—click to export.
Viewing Linked Transactions
When you click on a document, a file info panel appears on the right side. If linked to a transaction(s), you’ll see a Linked Transactions section showing:
Transaction date
Transaction amount
Clicking the transaction takes you directly to its details page in the Ledger.
FAQs:
How Long Does It Take to Convert a PDF to CSV? It depends on the document’s size and complexity.
Short statements (1–2 pages): Usually convert in about 60 seconds
Longer/more complex PDFs: May take up to 10 minutes
⚠️ Notes:
PDFs over 15 pages may not convert successfully (fix coming soon!)
Large files (~7MB+) or highly formatted statements may time out or return incomplete results
Can I upload documents that aren’t tied to transactions? Yes. You can upload any relevant files—like contracts, treasury reports, or receipts—directly into the Documents tab.
Can I delete or replace a document? You can delete a document by clicking the Trash icon in the file info panel.
If you delete a document from the Documents tab, it will also be removed from any linked transactions.
If you delete a document from the transaction details, you'll get the choice to either:
Unlink it (keep it in the Documents tab), or
Delete it entirely
Why don’t I see the Download CSV option? Only certain PDFs—like compatible bank statements—can be converted to CSV. If the file is too long, or otherwise unsupported, that option may not appear.
Do documents automatically link to transactions? If a file is attached during transaction creation or editing, it will show as linked in the Documents tab. Automatic matching is coming soon.
