Splitting Transactions for Clients

Some transactions from your client’s bank feed may include expenses across multiple categories—like a reimbursement combining travel, lodging, and meals. Use transaction splitting in Digits to assign each portion correctly.

Why it matters

Accurate splits help ensure your client's financial records and reports are clean and easy to explain—especially at tax time.

How to Split a Client's Transaction

  1. Choose your client
  2. Go to Banks & Cards from the left-hand nav.
  3. Switch to Edit Mode in the top-right.
  4. Locate and click the transaction to open it.
  5. Click the ➕ icon to create a new line.

  6. Enter the appropriate amounts and categories for each portion.
    • ⚠️ The split total must match the original transaction.
  7. Click Save & Close.

If the transaction was already reconciled, Digits will alert you that changing the category may affect prior work.
